The luck of having a roof over one’s head
How can we talk about homelessness without resorting to clichés? The design of the travelling exhibition “Alle wollen wohnen” (Everyone wants to reside) opens up a space for perspectives, stories, and encounters, to gain empathy and understanding instead of generating concern.
Exhibition design with symbolic significance
To celebrate the 75th anniversary of homeless assistance in Munich, the Catholic Men's Welfare Association Munich (Katholische Männerfürsorgeverein München e.V., kmfv) approached Büro Alba to collaborate on developing a travelling exhibition.
The focus is centered around the “roof over your head” as a key symbol of security, home, and social participation. We conceptualised and designed special exhibition modules. They were manufactured in the workshops of the association. We are particularly pleased that clients of the KMFV were involved in the realisation of this project.
Design that tells stories
The side walls and interiors of the roof modules tell the story of kmfv, interwoven with personal perspectives from clients and employees. Quotes and testimonials give those affected a voice, and interactive elements invite visitors to delve deeper into the topics and engage with the background of homelessness.
Mobile Modules
The exhibition elements are easy to assemble and dismantle and can be flexibly arranged in rooms of different sizes. Accessibility was a key consideration in the design process: the modules are accessible at ground level, and the texts and content are visually designed accordingly. This allows as many people as possible to participate in the exhibition, regardless of their physical abilities.
